New endpoint for the assigning a driver to an unidentified driving period
July 16th, 2025 by Abhay Anumula
This endpoint enables fleets to programmatically assign a driver to unidentified driving periods (UDEs: Unidentified Driver Events, DPEs: Driver Pending Events) within Motive, streamlining integrations with third-party driver-vehicle assignment systems and improving data quality for compliance and safety analytics.
NOTE
This endpoint only allows you to assign exempt drivers, and is mostly for fleets that do not use Motive for logging the Hours of Service (HOS).
Endpoint
- Method: PUT
- URL: https://api.gomotive.com/v1/driving_periods/{driving_period_id}?driver_id={driver_id}
- Purpose: A driving period is classified as "unidentified" when the Vehicle Gateway records vehicle movement but no driver is logged in or associated with that event. This usually happens when a driver starts driving without connecting the Motive Driver App to the Vehicle Gateway.
To mitigate such unidentified driving periods, you can use this endpoint that allows you to assign a driver to such unidentified events.
