Overview

The Utilization of a driver is an important parameter in managing your fleet, as it allows you to maintain an efficient and productive use of the driver's available work hours. The utilization measures how effectively and efficiently the drivers are managing their times and how regularly they are sticking to their schedules.

Utilization is always associated with route planning, and overall business objectives, so it becomes crucial to monitor the driver's utilization.

This overview highlights the functions of the Utilization endpoints and their use cases.

Fetch the utilization summary of a driver

  • Endpoint: v1/driver_utilization
  • Description: Use this endpoint to view the Utilization summary of a particular driver or multiple drivers.
  • Use Case: View a summary of the utilization of a driver or multiple drivers and see who is more efficient and productive. Managing drivers and their time is pertinent to smoother operations and if your drivers are managing their time better, then your operations will be performing to their full potential. If you find that some of your drivers are not good in terms of their utilization, then you can coach them and tell them the best practices.

Fetch the utilization of the driver (v2)

  • Endpoint: v2/driver_utilization
  • Description: Use this endpoint to view the details of the driver's utilization.
  • Use Case: View the exact utilization as calculated by Motive, so that you know which your drivers are high utility and which of them are not. This gives you a good idea of how your drivers are utilizing their time during your fleet operations and how you can go about in optimizing the same.

Fetch the utilization of a vehicle

  • Endpoint: v1/vehicle_utilization
  • Description: Use this endpoint to view the utilization of a vehicle.
  • Use Case: Understanding vehicle utilization is important as it tells you the duration of productive hours the vehicle has provided and allows you to manage the efficiency of your fleet. Be it any dispatch or a delivery, a vehicle reaches its maximum utility, when the Hours of Service (HOS) are followed properly by the driver, and when proper idle times are recorded.

View the idle events of your drivers

  • Endpoint: v1/idle_events
  • Description: Use this endpoint to view the details of your driver's idle times.
  • Use Case: This endpoint allows you to view important details about the driver's idle time, such as duration of the idle event (start time & end time), the location where the idle time was taken, the fuel details and others. This is critical as you can determine how long the idle time was and where exactly the driver was during this time.
